Camp Life
Facilities

Camp Laney is located atop Lookout Mountain in the midst of a quiet wooded section. The mountain climate is ideal for camping--warm days and cool nights. The beautiful Little River runs through the camp.
The main building in camp is the lodge. The lodge contains the dining hall, a well-equipped kitchen, and the camp offices. The facilities include a health center, gym, a 30' by 60' swimming pool, stables, riding ring, horse trails, three hard tennis courts, athletic field, ropes course, climbing tower, bouldering complex, sand volleyball court, two outdoor basketball courts, and rifle and archery ranges.
There is also a swimming and canoe dock on the Little River. There are sixteen cabins in camp with running water, showers and flush toilets in each, two shower houses and a toilet facility are centrally located for the convenience of all the campers.

Cabin Life

Campers are divided into cabins by age and grade in school. This insures more harmonious group living and the opportunity for each boy to make friends and share experiences with others his own age. Cabin living is supervised by a minimum of two counselors in each cabin.
Our camper-counselor ratio is approximately 4-1. The Camp Laney staff strives to give each camper a great deal of personal attention. During morning cabin clean-up, each cabin is competing for the session Honor Cabin Award.

Health & Safety

There are inherent and inevitable risks-both physical and emotional-in the camp experience. Our goal is to handle these risks wisely and create a camp culture that prioritizes health and safety with campers and staff. Safety rules in all areas are taught and stressed. Good health practices are encouraged by the staff. Three well-balanced meals are served daily. Meals are planned with the boys' likes and hearty appetites in mind.

  • Rest hour is observed daily.
  • There are two registered nurses and a doctor on the medical staff at Camp Laney.
  • The camp is within twenty minutes of the hospital in Fort Payne, Alabama.
  • All campers must have a completed health form on file in the infirmary.
Religious Affiliations

Camp Laney is a Christian camp but nondenominational. Religious beliefs and practices of all faiths are respected. Each camp day begins with our morning watch service on the banks of the Little River.
A brief worship service is held Sunday morning. Upon request, Catholic boys will be taken to mass.
